improved its record to 17-12 for the
year. The Wolverines advanced to the
game against UTEP by virtue of their
win over Nebraska last Thursday night
over spring break.
UTEP, which fell to 20-8 to finish the
year, was led by Burns with 16 points,
14 of which were tallied in the second
half.
Also playing solid ballgames for
Michigan in the victory were
Heuerman with 12 points and eight
rebounds, Johnny Johnson with 1Q
points and six rebounds, super-sub
Smith with 11 points and four assists,
Thad Garner with seven rebounds and
five assists, and substitute Marty
Bodnar (Mark Lozier started at guard)
with a perfect two of two field goals and
five of five free throws for nine points.

St. Peter's nips Duquesne, 34-33

Junior Lee Raker hit five free throws in
the last 27 seconds last night to give
Virginia a 57-55 victory over Boston
College in the second round of the
National Invitation Tournament.
Raker, who led the Cavaliers with 17
points, hit the front end of a one-and-one
situation with 27 seconds left, made two
more foul shots with 18 seconds to play
and two more with six seconds
remaining to offset Boston College
baskets by John Bagley and Chris Foy.
Illinois 75, Illinois St. 65
CHAMPAIGN, Ill. (AP) - Eddie
Johnson scored 25 points to lead the
University of Illinois to a 75-65 victory
over Illinois State in the second round of
the National Invitation Tournament
last night.
Del Yarbrough led ISU with 23 points,
but the Redbirds, without the services
of 7-foot-1 center Joe Galvin, got few in-
side shots and had trouble making the
outside shots in the first half.

MICHIGAN'S Mike McGee lays in two of his game-high 25 points which
lead the Wolverines past Texas-El Paso, 74-65. McGee led a balanced scoring
attack which featured four players in double figures. Michigan's next
opponent has not yet been determined.
