Artist plotted to kill Ford Television viewing tonight
SAN JUAN, P.R. f') -- An
artist who said he wanted to kill
President Ford has been taken
into custody by federal autithori-
ties in Puerto Rico, the U.S.
Marshal's office said yesterday.
The suspect, identified as Car-
los Irizarry, 37, a painter as

late Wednesday with threaten-
ing to kill the President.
The arrest came after Irizar-
ry held a news conference last
week saying that he planned to
become a human bomb and
blow up the President when he
arrived in Puerto Rico later
this month.
FBI and Secret Service agents
said they talked with Irizarry
after the news conference, but
his arrest was delayed until
Wednesday.
The suspect repeated what he
said in the news conference to
federal officials, a spokesman
said. He also favors a break in
the political relationship be-
tween the United States and
Puerto Rico, although he is not
publically identified with a po-
litical party.
