STARTS TOMORROW!
CORNELL WILDE'S
NO BLADE
OF GRASS
of 7 p.m.

Washington lawyer and former
U.S. ambassador to Luxembourg
Patricia Harris addressed the
audience at the University's sum-
mer commencement exercises
Sunday on the theme of "The
End of Innocence."
Though never mentioning Wat-
ergate by name Harris emphasiz-
ed the scandal's effect on the at-
titudes and actions of the Amer-
ican people.
"Now that we know what hap-
pened,' she said, "we can no
longer behave like innocent child-
ren. In politics and government
we must act firmly now that we
know that we have been lied to
by our political leaders.
"It is not enough to say that
the corruption of our leadership
is now over and that we c a n
move forward to more important
things.
"Each of us must determine
whether we wish to have an ef-
ficient nation run by knaves and
liars or whether instead we will
accept some inefficiency if neces-

sary to secure an honest and
honorable government. We must
then communicate our decision to
our elected representatives."
Harris concluded by saying,
"With the end of innocence, per-
haps we can turn our attention
to the development of wisdom."
Honorary degrees were award-
ed to Harris and Dr. G e o r g e
Palade, a noted cell biologist at
Rockefeller University. S o m e
2800 students are expected to re-
ceive degrees this summer.
