MADRID, Spain (M)-Spain, in
another major reversal of its
right - wing policies, legalized
the Communist party yesterday
for the first time since the end
of the Spanish civil war in 1939.
The government's legal jour-
nal published the decree and of-
ficials said the party was regis-
tered in 'the Interior Ministry's
book of political associations.
THE SPANISH Supreme Court
refused last week to rule on the
party's legality and sent the is-
sue back to the government of
Premier Adolfo Suarez.

Reports from San Sebastian,
the capital city of the Basque'
province of Guipuzcva, said
about 200 persons had staged
hunger strikes, demanding am-

DRUG PROBLEMS
BERKELEY, Calif (AP) -
The drug problems of the elder-
ly are, a growing concern of
doctors, according to Dr. We-
nell Lipscomb, a Berkeley psy-
chiatrist.
Some older people abuse
mind-altering drugs in an at-
tempt to escape from loneliness
and boredom. Others are unin-
tentional victims of the "spac-
ed-out grandma" syndrome -
peculiar behavior resulting from
the interactions of drugs pre-
scribed for the ailments of old
age, he says.

The view from on high yesterday was something this young
lady was not willing to relinquish easily. Her dad plopped her
up on this branch on campus. We don't know if she eventually
climbed down or not. In any event, it looked mighty com-
fortable.
