Republicans retain Record of voters'
slim edge on council registrations missing

Tuesday, April 2, 1974

(Continued from Page 1)
Several Human Rights Party of-
ficials have contended that oral
oaths, as opposed to signed affi-
davits, are still acceptable under
the laws, and that the other 19'
ballots are still acceptable.
WEISS CONTENDED last night
that he had no previous indications,
the registration problem might
occur and said "I was unaware of
this situation until now."
However several Human Rights
Party officials said yesterday they
were told by a source in the City'
Clerk's office a week ago that the
Clerk's office was expecting the
problem.
The HRP officials said they an-

ticipated the problem and even
briefed party workers the day be-
fore on "challenged voter"
A HIGH LEVEL HRP official
said last night, "The fault for this
undoubtedly lies with the City
Clerk. He suspected beforehand
that a signficant number of regis-
tration information might be miss-
ing, but never bothered to say any-
thing about it publicly."
HRP official Lisa North was re-
sponsible for transporting the reg-
istration lists from the Union to the
City Clerk's office until the last
week of the, January Union drive.
Then, Ann Arbor Community Serv-
ice Officers assumed the respon-
sibility for the last week.

good, clean, illegal fun."
It was the threat of some "good,
clean illegal fun" that caused
some to predict punitive actions on
the part of the city authorities.
University Safety Director, Co.
Frederick Davids warned, "If there
is any noticeable violation of the
law you can bet the Ann Arbor

Police will take care of it."
THE FEAR of arrests turned
out to be no more than common,
dope smokers paranoia. Two city
plainclothes policemen were spot-
ted on the scene but no arrests
were made despite the fact that
marijuana and its derivatives was
being smoked right beneath their
very noses.

Record feat
It was sorta like a zebra winning the Kentucky Derby. An avowed
non-beer drinker, Bob Lamerand, managed to overwhelm a field
of beer-guzzling competitors and take top honors in the "Beer
Lover's Le Mans" held yesterday on the diag. Lamerand's winning
entry, the seven-foot-high, LP-wheeled contraption pictured above,
chugged along for 409 feet, powered solely by one can of that most
versatile of liquids-beer.
