THE GROCERS, who felt most
threatened by the government's
price controls, introduced al-
most two weeks ago, opted to
await the ontcome of negotiations
today with Farm Minister Jac-
ques Chirac before deciding on
whether to pursue their shut-
down.
Some 2,000 striking shopkeep-
ers started a mass demonstration
in heavy rain in the heart of
Paris Friday afternoon to vent
their anger at the controls, which
they fear will drastically squeeze
their profits. The shopkeepers
federation proclaimed yesterday
"Operation Dead Cities."
Most city dwellers agreed the
merchants had achieved their ob-
jective. The total shutdown of
cafes in Paris cut the most vital
nerve of life in the capital,-forc-
ocing people to go without meals,
drinks or their favorite espres-
so coffee.
BUT A FEW food-conscious
Parisians still managed to parry
the strike in style. A young ac-
countant carrying a shiny box
told questioning newsmen: "My
wife gave it to me. I'm starting
with braised beef and potatoes,
then camembert cheese, apple
pie and wine."

At Tech Hifi, we follow every new development in audio technology with undamped
enthusiasm. Still, we haven't forgotten that whereas music can exist without hifi,
the hifi industry wouldn't be in existence if it weren't for the popular desire to listen
to"music. Our well trained salespeople can explain the latest terms to you, but even
more important, they can demonstrate why one system is better suited to your
mtsical tastes than another. The demonstration record collection at Tech Hifi stores
encompasses just about every kind of music, from rock, to jazz, to classical, to folk,
to country and western. In Tech Hifi listening rooms, the salespeople can perform
A-B loudspeaker comparisons on our volume compensated switching systems that
allow you to distinguish which speaker sounds better (not just louder) on your
favorite music. After all... music is what it's all about.
