The coinmune's philosophy also'
appealed to Gail Bourke, 23, a3
part-time student at Washtenaw
Community College who joined the
commune last April. "I was tired
of living alone, tired of a secluded,'
quiet existence. I needed a change
in life style and I adjusted quick-

"When I first came here I didn't
know if this was the answer, but
I needed a place to stay," she said.

ACCORDING TO a communique
issued here the Syrians yesterday
shelled Israeli positions in the Go-
lan Heights, destroyiyng two mis-
sile sites, tanks and other equip-
ment.
In the key northerp sector, Syr-
an armour repulsed, an Israeli at-
tack on advanced posts.
On the coast, Israeli jets again
strafed the main ports of Latakia
and Tartous but for the third day
they left Damascus untouched in
anparent respect for the city's
Soviet-built missile defences.
THE SOVIET Union has also re-
inforced its Mediterranean fleet
to about 70 ships - bigger than
ever before - a defense depart-
mernt spokesman said yesterday.
This follows the disclosure that
the United States has at least two
aircraft carriers and a helicopter
carrier in the Mediterranean as
part of the U. S. Sixth Fleet and
is sending 2,000 marines to the
area.
Meanwhile, Israeli Foreign Min-
ister Abba Eban said yesterday
that Israel "will certainly be
ready for most substantial com-
promises" in peace talks with the
Arabs, provided its security was
guaranteed.
HE SAID Israel's position con-
cerning a way out of the present
war "is cease-fire, negotiation,
peace." He stressed that there
must be a separation between the
cease-fire and the negotiations.
Eban did not elaborate on what
the compromises would be.

PICTURE YOURSELF IN A SMILE.
AND LAUGH ALL THE WAY TO JAMAICA.

Akadama Mama says,

Four people you know are
going to win round-trip tick-
ets to Jamaica. Wouldn't it be
a bummer if the only travel-
ing you did this year wets tak-
ing your roommate to the
airport?
It doesn't ha-ve to end that
way.
You and a friend, any friend,
even your roommate, can be

one of the guaranteed two
winning couples in your col-
lege area. And it will cost you
nothing more than a smile-
actually a picture of the two
of you smiling.
You can use any type of cam-
era. Nikons and 250 photo
machines are equally ac-
ceptable. Just have a photo-
graph, taken that will show

our judges your originality,
creativity, uniqueness and
personal smiling taste.
Then hand it in to a partici-
pating retailer listed below,
where you can fill out the en-
try form.
That's all you have to do. But
make sure you do it by No-
vember 7, 1973.

Pictures of all grand prize
winners will be reproduced
in a full page ad in Rolling
Stone Magazine.
Runner-up prizes will be two
complimentary pairs of A.
Smile pants in soft, wearable
cotton to the third winning
couple in each college area.
No purchase required.
