Head coach Gene Stallings called
the win "my biggest victory ever
in 7 years here. I would even con-
ider it more satisfying than our
968 Cotton Bowl win over Ala-
bama. We've had a bad year and
t's just great to win one." Texas
A&M had not beaten Arkansas in
Little Rock since 1941.
Last season Texas A&M visited
Ann Arbor and narrowly missed
recording a startling upset
Stallings remembers the game
well, but he feels that even if his
eam had defeated Michigan, the
victory over Arkansas would still
have been the greater of the two.
'Last year we had beaten a good
LSU team the week before our
game with Michigan, and we were
ess of an underdog," he explains.
'The win over Arkansas was a
conference triumph and the odds
were greater against us."
The situation is not totally bleak
or Arkansas despite the loss. They
still have an excellent shot at the
Southwest Conference crown and
a berth in the Cotton Bowl. With
Joe Ferguson at the controls, who
Stallings characterizes "as some-
one who throws nothing but perfect
passes," Arkansas is a powerful,
though somewhat erratic, football
team.
