HRP wins City Council positions

(Continued from Page 1)
The mood in HRP headquarters
-a small store front on Thayer
St. - was to say the least, riotous.
As the news of a stunning HRP
upset came in it was greeted with
wild applause, foot stomping and
a forest of clenched fists.
"Our victory," an elated Wechs-
ler said, "is a victory for a lot of
people in Ann Arbor. This town is
never going to be the same again."
De Grieck, still stunned by his
upset victory in the First ward
struck a more serious note
"We've won," he said, but we ask
all the people who supported us,'
not to desert us now. We need
your help to get things done in
this city."
The mood at the other parties'
"victory celebrations" was con-
trastingly glum.
The Democrats, gathered at the
University Club in the Michigan
Union, were generally tight-lipped
about their dismal showing.
"It was a hard fought cam-
paign," a despondent Morris said.
"I congratulate Nancy Wechsler.'
Democratic Mayor Robert Har-
ris declined to talk to Daily re-

Defeated First ward candidate
Kirscht offered this analysis of'
his surprising loss: "The Human
Rights Party had the organization
and they got out the vote. We
didn't get out the vote."
The mood at the Republicanj
celebration at the Ambassador
Hilton hotel - despite their vic-'
tories in three wards - was, if
anything, more depressed.
Tom Burnham-who was bank-
ing on his image as a young lib-
eral to win indthe Second ward -
blamed his defeat on what he.
termed "fictitious" charges made
against him in HRP advertising
in The Daily.
The Republicans assembled in
the Hilton took the news of HRP
victories with all the enthusiasm
of Romans greeting Attila the
Hun.
"It's sick," Republican council-
than James Stephenson (R-Fourth
ward), said.
The news of De Grieck's victory
was met with a volley of boos and
hisses.
"If the future of our country de-

pends on what happened in 1-3
(the third precinct of the First
ward where De Grieck received
over 1,000 votes) I'll put a bullet
in my head tonight," one Republi-
can campaign worker commented.
"They (HRP) should go back to
shining shoes and fornicating,"
another embittered Republican
was overhead to say.
The following reporters made up
The Daily's election night team: Dave
Burhenn and Marilyn Riley at City
Hall, Lorin Labardee at the Democrat-
ic headquarters, Charles Stein at the
HRP headquarters and Jim Kentch
at Republican headquarters.

Introducing the 4-channel T-shirt,
the least expensive Fisher you can buy.

We're selling the new Fisher TS-100 for only $1.
It's a 4-channel T-shirt, and a dollar is an incredibly
low price for it, since it's a $3.50 value.
But you don't even have to spend a dollar on it.
You can win it free, just by stumping one of our salesman
with any one of the twenty questions in this ad.
If you think this is some kind of con, you're

wrong. We expect our salesman to know most of the
answers. But all twenty??!!
Incidentally, you can pick up a copy of the
correct answers at the dealer listed below.
Salesmen are not allowed to look at the answers
while you're asking the questions.
That would be cheating.
