Toga down!
It has begun already. The animal House Syndrome. Our unofficial
count turned up at least four yoga parties this weekend including one
that attracted 400 people in East Quad Friday night. According to
informed sources it was a rather wild affair. "It was sort of scary
too,'' said one dorm resident. "You know, all those people in their
togas." Alice Taylor a Residential Director said, "A couple of people
had problems with their togas coming loose but it was alright because
they were wearing bathing suits underneath." Alice also reported a
high demand for safety pins. At one point in the festivities a staff
member was carried into the perty held aloft in a chair. As she entered
to cries of "Toga ! Toga!" she threw grapes to the crowd.
'I just got scalped.'
A middle aged gentleman from Detroit was trying to find some
Illinois tickets yesterday morning when he ran into a rather slezy
character in front of the Union. "I've got two on the 45," cried Mr.
Sleaze.. "How much?" asked the Detroiter. "Fifty dollars fot the
pair," said Mr. Sleaze. "Hey fellow do you have a license to carry a
hand gun?" asked the Detroiter. "Why?" "Well, this is a stick up,
isn't it?" The Detroiter eventually moved on and found a pair for $10.
We don't know what became of Mr. Sleaze.

Ten states
oppose
D.C
amendment
By The Associated Press
The proposed constitutional
amendment to give Washington, D.C.,
residents voting representation in
Congress has won approval in one state
and faces a vote in another one this
week, but officials in most of the
country seem in no hurry to act on the
measure.
An Associated Press survey found
that the amendment, passed by the
Senate on Aug. 22 and by the, House on
March 2, has been introduced in only
half a dozen states. Legislatures in
most states are in recess.
THE AP FOUND that the
amendment has prompted scattered
debate, with opposition shaping up in
about 10 states, most of them in the,
West and South.
"Why should the West give more
votes to the East?" replied Montana
Gov. Thomas Judge, a Democrat, when
he was asked whether he favored the
amendment to allow residents of the
nation's capital the right to elect two
U.S. senators and one or possible two
House memers. The Montana
Legislature does not convene until
January and there has been no talk so
far of introducing a ratification
measure.
Opponents elsewhere said it was not
fair for a city to be represented on the
same basis as a state. "I don't want to
give them two United States Senators,"
said Republican James Hurley, the
minority leader of the New Jersey
Assembly.
Jason Boe, president of the National
Conference of State Legislatures, said
ratification could be difficult. "The
nation's 7,600 state legislators are in a
'show-me' position," he said.
Michigan legislators will take up the
amendment this week. It is scheduled
for a vote in the state House following
unanimous committee approval and no
opposition has surfaced to date.
