did not see action for the remaind-
er of the game to hamper Illinois'
passing attack.
Michigan finally got rolling to-
ward the end of the third quarter.
Chapman fair-catched a short
Taliaferro punt on the Illinois 46
giving the Wolverines the ball in
Illinois territory for the first time
since early in the first quarter.
With Dave Raimey running bet-
ter than he has all season, Michi-
gan moved the ball to the Illini
nine in six plays.

Raimey carried on four of the
plays for 18 yds. and carried a flat
pass from Chandler for another 16
yds. in the drive.
From the nine, however, it took
another four plays and another
daring gamble to put the ball over.
Three smashes by. Raimey netted
only five yds., but Chandler com-
pleted a swing pass to Bob Tim-
berlake to put Michigan on the
scoreboard. Timberlake contribut-
ed the biggest portion of the play
when he carried two Illini defend-
ers into the end zone from the
three.
Now or Never
"If we wouldn't have scored
then, I don't know when'we would'
have," Bump said after the game.
With the score 10-6, Bump gam-
bled for the two-point conversion,
but Chandler couldn't find a re-
ceiver open. "When we're behind,
we'll go for the two-point play,"
Bump said. "We would have to
score again anyway to win," he
added.
Farabee then intercepted the
pass on Illinois' third play after
the kickoff to set up the second
score with center Jim Green and
fullback Wayne Sparkman helping
to make the play.
Green Sparkles
Green, whom Bunp said played
his best game of the season, tackl-
ed Taliaferro to force the wild
toss and Sparkman gave Fara-
bee a beautiful block at the 35.
The victory moved Michigan in-
to a tie with Illinois for eighth
place in the Big Ten standings,
leaving Indiana alone in the con-
ference cellar. It possibly is one
of the biggest wins in Wolverine
history since it saved the 1962 ver-
sibn from having the worst in that
fine history. Only the 1934 and
1936 teams were worse, with only
one win in eight games.

HUMAN WALL-Dave Raimey (19) seems intent on driving through a human wall, composed of
Dick Butkus (50), the highly-touted sophomore center of the Illini. Ken Zimmerman (20) leaps
from his defensive halfback spot to help his teammate with the ever-dangerous Raimey. Raimey
picked apart the Illini defense with his sweeping end runs.

PERILOUS PASS DEFENSE-Wayne Sparkman (33) makes a
diving attempt to knock Mike Taliaferro's pass from the eager
hands of Illinois' Thurman Walker (83). Daring plays like this
one kept the Wolverines in the game and knocked down 21 of
Tariaferro's 35 passes.

EAGLE SHIRTMAKERS PROUDLY ANNOUNCES
A DACRON/COTTON OXFORD
THAT WILL NOT PILL! .
O H, given time a short-necked man with a heavy beard could pill any oxford
cloth, they're that soft. But until just recently even Little Lord Fauntleroy
could have pilled a DACRON/cotton oxford cloth shirt with one curl tied behind
him. Which is why we didn't put out any of them. * Sure you know what pilled
means; it's when the fabric gets roughed up into little pills. * Well, Du Pont has
a brand new type DACRON that resists pilling. It came out about a year ago, but
we waited until Greenwood Mills, the weavers who make our cotton oxfords
produced a DACRON/cotton oxford they were proud of; a really luxuriant lofted
oxford. And that brings us up to now. We are making Eagle Shirts of this new
material in both a Tabsnapcollar and a button-down collar. At about $8.50.

The battle of the brothers -
Bump and Pete Elliott who have
the job of coaching the Big Ten's
two most abused football teams-
went to Bump again yesterday
and the result was clearly visible
in the faces of the coaches.
Bump, beaming as 'he hasn't
done since the Wolverines upset
Army in the second game of the
season, was all smiles. Pete, deject-
ed and red-faced from the rain
and wind outside, hung his head
like a whipped puppy.
"They outplayed us in the sec-
ond half," he said. "They outhit
us and deserved to win.
Butter-Fingers
"We dropped a lot of passes,"
he continued, "but that's not good
football. I've got no excuses."
It was a tough one for Pete and
Illinois to lose. Pete has never beat-
en a Michigan team, losing all
three times since he took over the
Illinois head coaching job in 1960.
Michigan won in that' year 8.6
on a two point conversion and 38-
6 last year.
But as it was a tough one to lose
for Pete, it was a great one for
Bump to win, though the Wolver-
ines did not look overpowering in
doing it.
Up ... and Over
Down 1-o and outplayed up
and down the line through a half,
Michigan came out of the dressing
room a changed football team and
took control of the game.
"It wasn't a matter of what I
said at half," said Bump, denying
the use of a pep talk, "it was the
team making up its mind to play
football.
"It was more a matter of trying
to adjust some on offense and on
defense," he added.
.Try Again
Once, the Wolveries drove and
were stopped after penetrating as
deep as the Illinois 23. The next
time, however, Michigan hit the
scoreboard.
Bob Chandler's four-yd. flat pass
to Bob Timberlake did the trick
after Illinois had held for three
downs inside the 10-yd. line. The
payoff pitch was Chandler's and
Michigan's first' of the year and
only the eighth touchdown by the
Wolverines all season.
"If we hadn't scored then I
don't know when we would have,"
said Bump. "They had stopped us
once and if we wouldn't have tak-
en it in then . . . well.
"Yes, I sent the play in from
the bench," 'he added with a smile.
"It gave us .a lift."
Indeed, the score seemed to ig-
nite new life into the Wolverines,
for it was on the following series
of downs that Ben Farabee picked
off Mike Taliaferro's hurried pass
and rambled to the Ilini one.
Chandler squeezed through the

Tabsnaps, you may recall, are Eagle tab collars that need no collar buttons.
Our button-down colars also have a property highly prized by the toney
cognoscenti* *: a sort of sloppy bulge. We used to call this "flare" until we noticed
everybody else was too. Besides, it really isn't a flare, it's a sloppy bulge, but it's
ours and we like it. * So if you want a drip-dry oxford shirt that won't pill
perhaps you'd better drop a note to Miss Afflerbach (she says forget the footnote)
and ask her where in your town you can find Eagle Shirts. This is because many
fine stores prefer to put their own labels in our shirts; very flattering, but tough
on Eagle eyed shoppers. Write her care of Eagle Shirtmakers, Quakertown, Pa.
*Du Pont's trademark for its polyester fiber. **That wouldn't be a bad name for an Italian fashion consultant. Say, do you
