Watch the Line Play
The opposition between the two
lines should be interesting. The
switch of Minor and Shumacher
to tackles worked well for the Il-
lini last weekend. Michigan should
be geared to take advantage of any
: weaknesses in the new Illini line
discovered by Dufek.
One weakness that Dufek did
"Y: not discover was Dick Butkis.
Butkis was named Midwest line-
man of the week for his outstand-
ing play against Purdue. Although
injured earlier in the season, the
tQ6'3", 234-lb. defensive linebacker
has fully recovered and will be a
stalwart on the Illinois line.
SUTTON .Another mammoth on the Il-
eguard linois line is Guard Archie Sutton.
Sutton is 6'4" and weighs 260 lbs.
Last year the Wolverines downed
Illinois 38-6; however, last year
the Wolverines began the season

BIG TARGET-Senior end Thurman Walker is a favorite target
of Illinois quarterback Mike Taliaferro's passes. In last week's up-
set over Purdue, Walker catches alone accounted for 90 yds. Mich-
igan backs will certainly have their eyes on him this afternoon.

SPORT SHORTS:
Baylor Sparks Los Angeles
To Upset over Boston Celtics

By The Associated Press
BOSTON - Brilliant Elgin Bay-
lor, who scored 41 points, and
sharpshooter Dick Barnett helped
Los Angeles break away from Bos-
ton in the third period en route to
a 133-120 victory in the teams'
first meeting since the National
Basketball Association playoff fi-
nals last spring.

The Lakers, who lost the decid-
ing seventh playoff game in over-
time, won last night at the free
try line.
Baylor, his usual fantastic self
with his shooting, dribbling and
multiple fakes, quickly followed
with a hook, Frank Selvy hit a
three-pointer, Barnett added a

SYRACUSE - Syracuse, back-
court aces Hal Greer and Larry
Costello sparked a late rally that
brought the Nats a 101-93 Nation-
al Basketball Association victory
over St. Louis last night and lifted
Syracuse into first place in the
Eastern Division standings.
The Nats trailed by one, 89-88,
with less than six mintes remain-
ing when Greer and Costello re-
turned after a brief rest and spear-
headed the drive that took it out
of danger.
NEW YORK - The Cincinnati
Royals ended a three-game losing
streak last night, defeating the
New York Knicks 122-119 in a
National Basketball Association
game, but had to fight off a Knick
rally in the last seconds.
The Knicks trailed by 10 points
going into the final two minutes,
got three baskets from Johnny
Green, two from Gene Shue and
two free throws from Richie Guer-
in as they cut the Royal lead to
119-117 with 21 seconds remaining.
Guerin then stole the ball from
Cincinnati's Adrian Smith,
dropped it in the basket, but the
two-pointer was disallowed for
traveling, and Oscar Robertson
I then put the Royals out of reach
with two foul shots with seven
seconds left.

MONTREAL -- Examinations
yesterday showed that goalie
Jacque Plante of the Montreal
Canadiens has a pulled muscle in
the back of his left deg and is a
doubtful starter for tonight's Na-
tional Hockey L e a g u e game
against Chicago.
Plante injured the leg in Thurs-
day's 4-1 win by the Canadiens.
