MIXERS, MIXERS, MIXERS...

By JUDITH OPPENHEIM
At 7:15 p.m. today, 1,457 wo-
men will appear at the doors of
the University's 22 sororities for
the first set of mixers of the 1961
Panhellenic rush calendar.
Two weeks of intensive rushing
will follow without interruption,
culminating in pledging March 5.
Rushees will begin by attending
mixers at all campus houses: five
tonight; five tomorrow afternoon;
four tomorrow evening; four Sun-
day afternoon, and four Sunday
night.
Open Houses
The mixers are a series of "open
houses," each lasting approximate-
ly 40 minutes. Talk will be inform-
al, ranging from questions about
the house to discussions about
professors. Rushees are usually
entertained by traditional songs.
On Monday, rushees will receive
invitations to the second set of
parties. Each rushee may accept
up to eight invitations for the
parties which last 50 minutes and
will be held Tuesday, Wednesday
and Thursday nights.
The second set of parties, like
the mixers, are casual. Each house
has an individual theme which it
carries out in entertainment, dec-
orations and refreshments.
Third Set
On Friday, f-ollowing the last
night of second set parties, rush-
ees receive invitations to the third
set, this time accepting up to five.
Third set parties last one hour
each and will be held Feb. 25
and 26.
These Parties are more formal
than those of the first or second
set. Rushees are given tours of
houses and have an opportunity
to visit with actives in their, rooms.
The fourth set of parties will be
Feb. 27 and 28. Rusheees, who may
attend three parties, spend an
hour and 15 minutes at each of
the houses they choose. Fourth
set parties are very informal and
usually include games, singing,
and skits presented by the actives.
Final Desserts
The last rush parties are final
desserts to be held March 2 and
3. Rushees may attend only two
final desserts which are the most
formal of the parties.
After the last desserts, rushees
return to the Michigan+ League to
preference. In preferencing, each
rushee lists up to, five sororities,
in order of preference, which they
would be interesting in pledging.
By noon on Mar. 5; rushees will
receive a card in their dormitory
mailboxes telling them whether
or not they have received a ad
from a sorority.
Those who receive bids go to the
League in the afternoon to pick
up their invitations and learn
which sorority they will pledge.
