MONTREAL (M)-Frank Shau-
ghnessy, president of the Interna-
tional Baseball League, said last
night the Havana franchise will
be moved within a few days "to
protect our players."
Shaughnessy's statement came
on the heels of an Associated Press
story which said the Havana club
would be shifted, probably by next
week, because of the unsettled
political situation in Cuba.
"'We have to protect our play-
ers," Shaughneysy said, "and the
only way to do it is to get them
out of there.
"The league decided last win-
ter," he added, "that if a situation
arose in which there was any
danger to our personnel I was to
have the authority to move the
franchise."
While Shaughnessy said there
still are several details to be
settled, the AP learned that the
Havana club, the Sugar Kings, will
play its remaning home games at
Jersey City, Cincinnati and other
cities in the United States.
The Sugar Kings have a work-
ing agreement with the Cincinnati
Reds of the National League.
Informed that Bobby Maduro,
president of the Sugar Kings, said
he knew nothing of the shift,
Shaughnessy said:
"Maduro probably won't like it.
But it is in his interest. We just

Two-Stroke Edge
Entering today's showdown, de
Vicenzo, a transplanted Argentine,
had a two-stroke edge over Kel
Nagle, a one-time mill worker
from Australia who added a 67
to a previous 69 for 136.
Then came Palmer at 141, after
a frustrating second round of 71,
tied with Peter Thomson of Aus-
tralia, who registered a 69, and
surprising Sebastian Miguel of
Spain, who rallied with a brilliant
68.
