The first football game of the sea-
son will be played this afternoon on
the athletic Geld, and it is very im-
portant that a large crowd be out.
The immense advantage to the work
of the team derived from an early
display of enthusiassm on the part of
the University, can scarcely be over
estimated. Almost invariably the stu-
dents lament the close of the season
becouse it is felt that the schedule of
games is all over just when the men
are in the best condition for playiing.
But the students are themselves to
blame for this frequent tardiness in
team development. The men can ne-
complish two or three times as muici
in a given tiule if they see that their
efforts are being appreciated. If a
strong team is desired for the impor-
rant games later on, a correspondingly
enthusiastic crowd must turn out to
see the earlier games. Surely the
men cannot be expected to sacrifice
time and energy for the University, if
the University does not show enough
interest in the team to come to the
games. When the time actually ar-
rives for the hard struggles, it will be
too late for the disappointed crowd to
aid in winning themi. Now, however,
every man in the University, who
does not play himself, can be just as
sure of helping to make Michigan
victorious when the criicdal moment
comes as though he were one of the
coaches. We have a splendid lot of
mien, splendid coaches and trainer,
and a splendid record behind the
team. What we need now is some
rousing enthusiasm from every man
who can by any possibility find him-
self on the athletic field at 3 o'clock
this afternoon.
A new list of periodicals is being
prepared in the general library, which
grill be posted up before long.
