A Great Task.
Prof. Henmpisi editorial critic in
the twvo departments of Pronuncia-
tion and Germanic Philology of a
ne edition f Worcester's dictionary
which is nowa eing prepared for
publication. This wiii be a large
dictionary of about the saie size as
the Century. Its preparation aa
been going ono for several yearn and
it will probably be several more be-
fore it is finished. The position
wviicih Prof. Hemp holds, both re-
quires a tiiorongh knowtledge of sub-
ject, and takes act immiense amount oh
time to read proof. The pronuncia-
tion of every word and the derivation
of eacih of the large iumber which
are of Tentocic origin musct be care-
fully gone over. 'ihis prsition is a
testiormoy to Prof. Hemp's excel
lance, for it practically recognizes
limn as the formost authority in tie
country in these departmtents of
literature.
