health reform and youth vio­
lence.

AS FAR AS Ms. Baker, 23,

tween her and her friends was

From June to November, she
worked odd jobs and bided her
time in unemployment lines.
"At the time, I was really bit­
ter," she said "I almost lost my
mind. I thought: 'What's wrong?
Why can't I get a job?'"
