Civic, busin leader, John
S. Humphrey was a member and
deacon for 45 years at the War­
ren Avenue Baptist Church
where his funeral was held, Sat­
urday; April 23, 1994.
Humphrey, 78, was born in
Stuggart, AR, and moved to D -
troit in 1936. He was faithful to

Humphrey's first employ­
ment in Michigan was the High­
land Park Chrysler wh re he
became chief steward of the un­
ion. He ttend d Wayn State
Univ rsity and became one of
the leadingreal e tate brokers in
the metropolitan area. He
owned the Humphrey Realty for
45 years and was named "Broker
of the Year" by his colleagues.
Humphrey served as presi­
dent of the local chapter of N a­
tional Association of Real Estate
Brokers, was a member of the
Detroit Chamber of Commerce,
the Hamtramck Board of Com­
merce; a member of the Booker
T. Washington Trade Associa­
tion, the Cotillion Club, lifetime
member of the NAACP, and a
lifetime donor to the Orphan's
and Widow's Fund of the Detroit
Police Department.

JOHN S. HUMPHREY
Humphrey was preceded in
death by his second wife, Zellie,
three months ago.
Pastor Bernard Smith gave
the main eulogy for Humphrey,
deacon at Warren A venue for 40
years. Herman J. Glass repre­
sented the Cotillion Club and
Ray Jenkins and James Morris
spoke for the .Real Estate Bro­
k rs, as w 11 as representatives
of th church. .
Humphrey is urvived by two
daughters, Harriott and Joyce
Humphrey; a stepdaughter,
Shirley Gebregzabhair of Silver
Springs, MD., and a son Bernard
King; two grandchildren and one
bro her, Tyree Humphrey; one
sister, Future Mae Bryant and
oth r relatives.
