The Benton Harbor City Commi ion
requ t from members of the Twin Citi

trol of the airport once th name changed.
Th airport is jointly owned by th two mu
nicipalities of Benton Harbor and St. J ph,
with Benton Harbor owning 62.79 percent and
St. Jo ph, 37.21 percent.
Airport Manager John Chaddo told th
commi ion by using th nam Regional, th
airport could get more contributions coming in
from other communiti lilo Lincoln, Royalton
and more support from B rrien County.
"I trongly f el that, by changing th name to
Southwest Michigan R gional Airport will bene
fit everybody concerned," id Chaddock. "We're
changingth namesoit'so ned to surrounding
areas to use, to contribute to m ke it a larger
airport in the Benton Harbor ar "
port and r commended that th name of the
airport Benton Harbor Southwest Michigan
Regional Airport.
Commissioner George Wysinger cast the only
vote against the renaming of the airport to in
clude Benton Harbor.
"1 can't how we are going to lose owner-
hip by changing th nam ," Wysinger added.
Commi ioner Ricky Hill . d he disagreed
with Wysinger, that by putting Benton Harbor
on the name would stop other communities from
contributing funds.
Commissioner Charles Yarbrough ked the
airport board members, "what is wrong with the
airport ing rep nted by th folks that own
it . . . predominately?"
ARBROUGH WENT on to tell them that
1 t y ar alon th City contributed 67,000 to
th airport. "We're going to protect what we
own, whether you like it or no ," he told the
board m m rs.
A r the m ting, Chadd k said he would
take the City Commissioners recommendations
back to the board, but didn't know what their
