the Monday, October 4 City
Council meeting, he expressed
ooncem that a widespread prob
lem of lead poisoning might exist
in Highland Park and said that
remedial action was necessary.

NEW YORK, NY - The nation's
largest long distance telephone
oompany - AT&T - recently
apologized for what its officials
now admit was a racist cartoon
in this month's employee maga
zine.
The cartoon depicted charac
ters on continents around the
worl a te}ephOM. All
the charaate depicted.humans
representing the continents ex
cept Africa. The character repre
senting Africa was a monkey.
AT&T spoke man Walter
Murphy said he was "appalled"
at the cartoon, which drew com
plaints from numerous oompany
employees.

HIGHLAND PARK - The
Highland Park City Council
passed a resolution submitted
by Councilwoman Greta
Johnson at its October 4 meet
ing specifying that a portrait of
the late Councilman Charlie P.
Davis be displayed in the eoun
cil chamber fot an indefinite
time.
Davis was elected to the
council two different times -
once in 1982 and the second
time in 1992. He died in the
middle of his second tenn on
June 14, 1993.
The resolution stated Davis
"served the City of Highland
Park with commitment, honor,
pride, loyalty, and dignity" and
the oouncil is givingrerognition
to him by having his portrait
displayed on the wall of the
council chamber where he "so
proudly served.
