The Vaughns heartbeat for their

before they were married.
Corletta remini cenced to 1972
when her parents, Henry and Jessie
Lewi founded Holy Ghost Mis-
!('nary Baptist Church, then located
on the =orth end of the city at 935
Alger. After explaining that her fa­
ther believed God called hi m to begin
the church, Vaughn said the baton of
pastoral leadership was p ed on to
her years later in 1986.
"I recall walking into my p'aren
burch one Sunday and I aw that
the church lacked so much piri tual
noun hrnent," the native Detroner
aid. A traveling evangelist at the
time, Corletta aid it was then that
be knew God commi ioned her to
p . tor th church.

wanted me to do, and when I told my
dad, be aid he al 0 knew." .
But a female pastor?

lor .degree in Religious Edu arion
from William Tyndale College, aid
though thi was and till is virtually
unheard of in the Baptist d nomina­
tion, her father's acceptance of
women preachers made the adj us t­
ment to pas to ring and marriage eas­
ier.
