However, on the urvey of
people they admired we saw the
likes of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr.
and Malcolm X In pite of all of the
hype regarding the Malcolm X
movie and th annual Dr. King
holiday, our youth still held the trap

list of the youth were their frieOOs

The expectations of m t of th
youth was very unrealistic: 41 per
cent expect to attend coUege on an
athletic scholarship, and among
Black youth seventy 6.5 five percent
expect to get the athletic bolarship.
The fact is only six point two
percent of high school football
players and 2.5 percent of th high
school basketball players get a col
lege scholarship .
. 63.8 percent of the athletes in
Black cbools expect to play profes
ional ports, white chools only
17.2 percent of all chool athletes
. expect to play professional ball.
The fact is that th odds are 7,325
to 1 that they will play prof ional
basketball or football.
It· sad to see our youth in 1993
till expecting to do the impossible
for mo t, a profe ional sports
career!
AT THE AME TIME we
reed more M.D.'s, Ph.D' , CPA's,
and J.D.' . The odds are greater that
they can be uccessful in school than
in ports.
It is time to send your m ge to
