HIGHLA D PAR - Tele
Media, a cable company with a con
tract in Highland Parle, wrote a letter
to the HighlaIJd Park City Council
announcing it would be raising its
rates to customers March 1st How
ever, council members indicated
that it is considering taking measures
to end tIK: company's contract, be
cause of citizen complaints about
poor service.
The council indicated it was
waiting for a report from city
cable commission fore taking ac
-lion.
For a long time citizens have
been complaining about poor ser
vice, the failure to see programs on
tbeir scree. d delay in getting
rairs.
For the past few meetings, the
company failed to broadcast on
cable the city council meetings as it
agreed to do, Council President Pro
Tern Christine Franklin charged.
TIlE TELE-MEDIA letter said
it would be forced to raise its rates
by March lst, because of increased
costs for utilities, fuel, taxes, and
general operational expenses, along
with increased programming fees.
"We will continue to provide
your community with the best pos
sible service," th company letter
said. "We have representatives and
service technician [ ic] available to
respond for em rgency repair er
vice evenings, weekends and
hoidays."
The council voted to send a letter
to Tele-Media expressing "regrets"
that fOmpany was not available to
broadcast the meeting,
According to council sources.
tre company said it was unable to do
so, because of equipment failures.
However, the council replied in its
letter that "the city is not responsible
for their equipment problems and
personnel problems." Franklin said
Tete-Media made an 'agreement and
should, have borrowed equipment, if
that was necessary to fulfill it.
It was impo ible to reach Tcle
Media systems manager Anthony
George about th e charges by
the time of this deadline.
