Johnson aid they will also work with the cus
tomers the City has done, on delinquent accounts.

pay their bill, they can find sistance for them or the
customer could use the budget plan.
"Our appro ch to collect delinquent accounts, i
try not to hut customers off," Johnson aid, "We want
to keep the meters turning."
Johnson aiCl Michigan Gas wants to work clo ely
with the citizens and get them on monthly billings that
will be mailer and easier for them to pay.
City's Finance Director Michael Vance aid it will
be about 90-120 days before Michigan Gas takes over

gram.
According to the re olution, "the
revised guideline will allow
qualified homeowner-occupant a
better chance to receive. Federal
Rehabilitation assistance without th
process becoming a cumbersome or
deal."
The revised procedures will also
allow for an increase in the eligible
amount to be spent on each property
from $12,000 to $20,000, changing
the allowed rehabilitation amount to
200 percent of the estimated current
market val ue as opposed to the 100
percent of the estimated market
value approved by the City in Sep
ternber, 1991.
Deferred Loans are issued for a
period of five years. After which the
lien is released if the homeowner ha
met the requirement to live in the
home during this five year period.
Deferred loans are restricted to
persons with incomes defined a
low/moderate (80 percent of area
median income) and who are elderly
and/or handicapped or persons with
incomes defined as very low (50 per
cent or les of are median income)
regardles of elderly and/or hand
icapped status .
