Mr. and Mrs. James
Thornton of Tulsa, Ok­
lahoma, relatives of Lessle
Palmer of Detroit, graciously
played host to more than 50
relatives at a family re-union
recently for a three day event.
Members greeted each other
at a fish fry on Friday at the
Thornton's spacious home.
On Saturday a sumptuous
dinner was prepared wi th a
variety of meats, salads, des­
serts, and freshly made
lemonade ... The Thorntons
believe that a. family who
. prays together stays together
so on Sunday they all at­
tended Philippi Baptist
Church and some of the fami­
ly members provided gospel
entertainment.
Another delicious menu of
short ribs, barbecued ribs,
cabbage, green beans,
macaroni & cheese, turkey
and dressing, greens, water­
melon, peach cobbler, and
homemade cakes was en­
joyed.
Those attending included
Reverend and Mrs. Vernon
McFarlin, Mr. and Mrs. Les­
lie Thornton and family, Les­
sie Palmer of Detroit, the
Elroy Thornton family of
Detroit, Mr. and Mrs. MiqueU
Thornton of Ann Arbor, the
Leonard Holt family of
Detroit and Topeka, Kansas,
Sarah Holt and children,
Charles and Colleen, of
Detroit, the Frank Johnsons
of Los Angeles, Shirley
Devill of Kansas City, Mo.,
and Spencer James, Jr. and
son of Oklahoma City. Les­
sie spent a month-long vaca- .
tion with her relatives in
Tulsa ...
Floyd Penick devoted 20
years of his adult life working
in Detroit as a traffic court
and as istant Ombudsman.
On Thursday, September
13th he was injured in an
automobile accident and
died. Funeral ervices were
held at Hartford Memorial
Baptist Church. To the
remaining family members

Stefanie P. Worth has been named
to the position of Public Information
Coordinator for Starr Commonwealth
Schools. In that capacity she will be
responsible for assisting the Vice Presi­
dent of Dcvclopment in carrying out the
public relations, community relations
and development functions of S
Commonwealth.
STEPHANIE·WORTH
This includes developing and coor­
dinating the on-going communication
needs of the organization and es�
lishing public relations goals.
She will also assist in developing the
media relations needs of Starr's five­
year-Old Wayre County Campus in
Detroit, Michigan; developing name
'recognition for the organization and
familiarity with its leadership in the
metropolitan Detroit area.
Worth comes to Starr from the
Michigan Chronicle where she was co­
editor of the Compositions section and
a weekly columnist. She has also
served as Administrative Consultant to
the Detroit Street Law Project of Wayne
County Neighborhood Legal Services;
Special Projects Assistant to former
Detroit City Councilman John C.
Peoples; anchor/reporter for WJLB
radio and repoter/ancbor for KBIA
radio and KOMU-lV in Columbia,
