The Fair will be held at Covert School parking lot,
located on M-I40 Highway, in Covert, Michigan, at
10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m.
Saturday, September 5th activities will be: Music
by Mellow Fellow OJ; C1lildren's Story Hour, Betty
Colombel; Double Dutch-Brid., Girl Scouts of
Singing Sands; Flippin (acrobatic:a), South Haven;
Flippin (acrobatics), Covert; Civic Black Theatre of
Kalamazoo; Black Entertiners (dancers), Covert &

auditoriwn at 7 p.m. On program will be the Burton­
Smith Connection, featuring Jeffery and Birgit Bur­
ton of Buffalo, New York. Also featured will be the
Seventeen Voice Koiona Community ingers of
Detroit, Michigan.
Activities for Sunday, will include; MUsic by Mel­
low Fellow OJ; Children's Story Hour, Betty Colom­
bel; Singers Teri Jackson and Tiffany Gordon;
Soloist, Joe Singer; and video's featuring the Missis-
sippi M Qoir and The Florida Mass Ctoir.

II offer grants
Money for neighborhood people
to tackle projects on their block is
now available.
, It is part of the Vision '93 process
initiated by Cornerstone Alliance
last year produced seven initiatives,
including Neighoorhood Develop­
ment which is promoting the pro­
pam called BulldinJ Blocks were
. the result, according to Gladys
Peeples Burks and Richard
Whiteman, co-cbairs of the neigh­
borhood development task force.
Vision '93 will award small
grants to neighbQl1 who wish to un­
dertake a project that will impact the
quality of Ufe in their immediate
neighborhoods. .
Applications' will be ccepted
from existing block groups or neiJh­
borbood coalitions created eapedal­
ly to undertake a eUgible project.
The block must be located in the
City of Benton Harbor, Benton
Charter Township, or St. Jo eph
Cbau1er Township and consist of at
least eight residential units that ad­
join one another.
Eligible projects must be
developed by a resident group, meet
the general goals of the program, and
enhance the quality of life in the
defined area. Activities might in­
clude planting flowers, tree , or
shrubs in common areas; painting
house numbers on curbI or homes;
fixfna street signs; coverina aramti;
or general clean-up of the neighbor­
. hood.
Due to the 1CU0nal nature of
these activities, all projects must be
completed by November 31, 1992.
Neighborhood groups mUit lub­
mit a brief written description of the
proposed activity, aloDg with the sig­
natures of the neighboll Involved, by
4 p.m. on August 28, 1992.

be judged on a point system involv­
ing neighborhood participation
level, potential for other financial
support, involvement of residents in
completing the activity, and innova­
tion.
The BuUding Blocks program
will contribute a maximum of$2,000
to each project. Neighborhood
groups are encouraged to use the
grants to leverage other funds and to
solicit in-kind assistance and
donated services if required to cover
additional expenses.
