Partisan precinct delegates (coun
ty convention delegate ) are to be
elected at the Augu t 4, 1992
Primary.
A precinct delegate is an elected
official and will attend his or her
party's county convention to elect
county party leadership and state
convention delegates.
Each precinct is allocated a cer
tain number of delegates by the
• Republican and Democratic parties
. • in Berrien County. The total number
of Republican delegate for Berrien
County is two hundred fourteen
(214). The total number of
Democratic delegates for Berrien
County is two hundred seven (207).
The allocation of delegates is b ed
on the total vote cast for Secretary
of State in the November, 1990
GeneralElection by each party.
To become a precinct delegate for
a political party, a person needs to be
_ a registered voter and must circulate
a partisan precinct delegate nominat
ing petition in the precinct where he
or she is registered to vote.
Nominating petitions must be
signed by a minimum of three, but
not more than twenty, registered
voters from the precinct delegate
candidate's precinct.

August 4, 1992 primary is 4:00 p.m.
on May 5, 1992 in the Berrien Coun-
ty Clerk's Office. .
Precinct delegate candidates are
positioned on the ballot after all other
partisan offices.
Three vote are needed to win a
precinct delegate position. However,
the candidates with the most votes
are the candidates who will be
notified by the County Clerk of their
election as precinct delegates and of
the date and time of their party con
vention.
Shortly after the August 4, 1992
Primary, the newly elected precinct
delegates will meet at their county
convention to select delegates and
alternates to' the Republican or
Democratic state conventions.
At the state conventions, each
party will nominate candidates for .
the following statewide offices:
- Michigan State Supreme
Court (2)
- Michigan State University
Board of Trustee (2)
- University of Michigan Board
of Regen (2)
- Wayne State University Board
of Governors (2)
- Michigan State Board of
Education (2)
- Electors of the President and
Vice-President (18)
Precinct delegates are the
grassroots of their respective parties
and playa vital role in determining
the leadership and direction of their
party.
