you print is the negative, you destroy
the community, and the press has to

ying it would give jobs to city resi

the community in which the bottling
plant is located."
In 1990, Pepsi closed its Exeter
Avenue plant in Detroit and opened
the new f cility with a 12-year $6
million tax break from the city.
Reportedly, Pepsi agreed to give
180 laid-off Exeter workers-80
percent of whom ar� Afr.i�an
Americans-preferentlal hirtng
rights at the new plant. But when
these workers applied for jobs, they
were tested. Only four white males
p sed the' test and were hired. Over
400 predominately white workers,
who were transferred into the new
plant from uburban Detroit loca-
