Today, the top players
score multi-million dollar con

glamourous, but that doesn't
mean players live in a world

taken to an extreme is with the

trying to get Black fans, and
Blacks in Boston know it.
Things weren't much better
for some of the great Black

K.C. Jones has a cross
burned on his lawn. Bill
Russell's home was defaced
and he was constantly jeered
by white fans. The list goes on
and on. At the top of it was
management's double stand

makes for some very good

The Introduction
-If they have the right to seduce you to blood'
baths, My first amendment lets me lead you to
the right path. -
-May May
Ladle and gentlemen, step aside for May May, an
exciting up and coming artist in the rap world. Her
debut album on Scotti Bros. Records is a poignant 12
songs collection that displays the complexity of May
May's multi-faceted character. It is no coincidence
that May May decided to call her album The Intro
duction - after your first introduction you will feel
welcomed into the world of May May.
Born and raised in Chicago, May may relocated to
California in 1985. In 1988 May May discovered that
she had a natural talent for rap music along with an
abUlty to write engaging lyrics. She started going to
record companies in hopes of landing a recording
contract. It was discouraging at times but May May
kept her music and followed her dream.
If you want to know more,
turn up the volume andlet
her music make The Introduction.
"Oetting breaks was not easy,"states May May.
"Even though my father is famous, I had to ... sort of
climb tbe ladder with a fighter'S determination, and
set out to do it on my own," she articulates in a
humorous manner. "I admire anymore in this busi
oeas who makes it, and keeps their sanity.".
May May's positive outlook on Ufe stems primari
ly from her spirituality . "We all have a negative side,"
she states, "but it is our spiritual life that helps make
for the positive changes within ourselves." This
piritual point of view is partlcularly evident in her
first single "Lif's a Test." But May May's DO
preacher. Her positively combines ber spiritual out
look with humor. PerforrnallCC'3 at Los Angeles'
COmedy Store as a stand-up comic helped develop her
timing and ease of humor, which shines through. in
songs like "Alpoman" and "Stampede."
MAY MAY
IT IS WITHIN thi balance between the spiritual
and the humorous that May May finds ber writing
niche. Sp,iritual sonp like "Ya Head is 1)eQd" and
"'I'M Sadness" are balanced with music from ber
humorous side.
The Introduction was produced by hip-hop graphic
artist SteviDub, although May May shows her ability
for the technical side with a co-producing credit on
half the songs on the album. She also takes the
writing credit for the entire record.
And so Ladie and Gentleman, that's May May. If
you want to know more, tum up the volume and let
her music make The Introduction.
