In working toward the
21st C ntury, we will have to
change these limited goal of
education for African
Americans because our sur-
I vival depends on it.
We need new goals for our
educational institution that
are grander than just getting a
JOB! We need and education
al ystem that stre e the
goals of Education to
Govern!
An educational system
that promotes the idea of
having POWER! One that
promotes the idea of
autonomy and ownership, if
independence.
We need a system that en
courages us as a race to be
come thinkers, to be
problems solvers.
Our educational ystem
can no longer teach the
limited Eurocentric view of
the world! It must take on an
African-centered perspective
that will work to strengthen
our self-awarenes , our self
love, our self-respect, our
self-esteem. .
Our educational system
will work to enrich our com
munity and encourage our
people and our community to
develop it on conclusion and
to develop it on independent
decisions.
We need an educational
system that will encourage us
to again become the proud
and prosperous race' that we
were.
We must work hard to
begin taking the political
responsibility of becoming
leaders, governors,
entrepreneurs, intellectuals
and politically- and socially
responsible human beings.
We must learn to do for our
selves!
We must work to control
our political, economic and
social institutions. Only then
will be be able to create the
opportunity to advance our
selves.
Our educational system
must have as its ultimate goal
that of empowering the
African-American com
munity to become the gover-
· nors of the future!

Why in recent month has af
firmative action been the center

and political henanigans?
Why is the 1992 presidential
campaign already boiling over
wi th praises and condemnations
of 'David puke, George Bush,
Mario Cuomo, Clarence Thomas,
the NAACP and others? '
The answer to these questions
lie in the term "affirmative ac

people. Most seem to think it
denote special treatment or
preferred handling. Let' look:
- For WAR VETERANS, f
firmativc action ha appeared in

civil .ervice and other te t scores
to give the veterans an advantage
in getting job .
- For the HANDl APPED

or any other-i-afflrmauve action
ha taken the form of pecial
ramps, white cane, allowance
for guide dogs, Social Security
benefits and other advantages.
- For ENIOR CITIZENS,
