Shoreham Terrace
NurSing Home
Mercy Memorial Health Ser
vice has purchased Shoreham
Terrace Nursing Home, St.
Joseph, from Tendercare Inc.,
Sault Ste. Marie for S2.9 mil
lion. The purchase became final
May 8, said Le lie Gilreath,
Mercy Memorial Director of
Marketing. Mercy Memorial
Heal th Corporation also owns
Mercy Memorial Medical Cen
ter.
. The 29,858 quare-foot, 112-
bed facility was built in 1968.
Tendercare purchased it and
several other Michigan nursing
homes from Beverly Enterprise
Mic.higan, Inc. in December
1989, following heated
employee strike and
demonstrations for better condi
tions.
Margaret MacKay,
Tendercare 's vice president of
operations, tated that Teneder
care is not selling all its nursing
home , but the Shoreham trans
action pre ented several special
opportunities. In particular, the
proximi ty of the nursing home
to Mercy Memorial Medical
Center will allow the initiation
of various long-term care
program, she aid.
MacKay said the hospital
plan to study the po ibility of
adding other pecialized care,
uch a geropsychiatry,
Alzhei mer' care, venti) tor
