Only charter keeps city

BENTO HARBOR - At the
Monday night, November 6,
Benton Harbor City Commis­
sion meeting the issue of leasing
office space at the Vincent
Place from the Mayor's brother
to house the City's Community
Deve opment Department was
agai on the agenda for the
seco d week in a row.

The commission approved
the rehabilitation contract with
RA.H. Development Company
in the amount of $11,555 to
cover the cost of rehab at 1266
Union, the home of Letha
Yarbrough.
They also approved another
contract with R.A.H. D elop­
ment for rehabilitation of
property at 575 Niles Street, in
the amount of$9,320, belonging
to Sylvia Wright.
Wysinger v ted no on both
resolutions, while Yarbrough
abstained on the resolution for
Letha Yarbrough.
In other business the com­
mission voted to approve:
- Selling a vacant lot owned
bythecitytoMr.andMr . w.e.
Liphford, at 399 E. Britain for
the amount of $400. Minimim
bid was $500, but the city al­
lowed $100 to the Liphfords for
the upkeep of the property the
last three years.
- Deeding property at 221
S. McCord t the State of
Michigan to cl ar title to allow
Fannie Bradley to r -deem the
property ba k from the state
She will have to pay the 4,362
in back taxes.
- Buying a new dump true
with underbody scraper from
Harbor Ford, Inc., Benton Har­
bor, for the amount $33,99.
- Awarding contract to
Ideal Plumbing & Heating, Inc.,
in th amount of $6,639 for in-
. stallation of the heating- ervice
in the garage of Benton H rbor I
Armory/ ommunity enter,
the old Naval Reserve Armory
building. Yarbrough ab tained
on the re olution.
- Awarding contract to
Mead & White Electrical Con­
tractors, for the amount of
9,892 for electrical service at
the Benton Harbor Ar­
mory/Community Center.
Yarbrough abstained on thi
resolution also.
. - Appointing of James F.A.
Turner to another term on the
Benton Harbor Hou ing Com­
mission Board. Wy inger com­
