Benton Harbor ha borrowed
S 1.8 million in state emer
gency funds, according to
Finance Director Johnson.
In other actions, the com
mission approved a contract
with Gerbel and Company for
SI6,275. Gerbel and Company
will the City's Finance
Department in preliminary pre
audit work. The help is needed
that the city can continue
within the audit time chedule.
Also approved by the com
mission was the renewal of
contract with G.L. iller and
sociates for a maximum of
3000. The contract is for the
maintenance of software pro
grams for the city' utility
billing ystem, A $25 per hour
fee for any other requested
services would be charged to the
city also.

ceived renewal of eight taxi
cab licenses, in another action
taken by the City Commission.

to talk to their children about
vehicle fety.
'q'hey (parents) don t sit
down and take time to explain
to the kids the afety rules,"

straight through stop signs, right

lives are in danger!
"As you ride around the city,
you see thou ands of kid
riding bicycles and mopeds -
with no regard for the regulat
ions", said Yarbrough.

to the parents to teach their
children the responsibilities in
volved with riding a bike or
moped.
Yarbrough uggested that
parents and young ters pick -u p
information about vehicle safety
at the Benton Harbor Police
Department.

licen fees have been paid and
the cabs have been inspected.

approval of a Downtown
Development Authority and a
missioners present. During the
meeting, Cooke, it chell , and

according to Sylvia Coleman,
director of financial aid fOT
LMC.
Students need to allow a
minimum of eight weeks pro
cessing time for their financial
aid statements and verification,
she said. Regular registration
begins Aub. 28. Students who
mu t have aid t pay tuition
and costs should apply no .
Even if they are undecided
about attending, they should
apply 0 that aid will be lined
up if they decide to attend.
Applying does not commit them
to attending.
To receive financial assistance
a student must apply for d
mission to LMC and fill out a
financial aid statement.
