Did you hear bout th 1 dy
from Co ert ho w . gned
by the Department of Social
Services to or in the che
distribution program run by
Van C p. She hurt her bac
hile picking up a box of che
and couldn't get either of tho
Human Service genae to
d ce money for her doctor
and medical bill.
obody i denying that she
got injured nor are they denying
tha e got the injury on the
job.
Th problem rns to be,
,ho . to pay the doctor?
either geney ants to ccept
the re ponsibility, 0 since ay
this elfare recipient ha been
doing the p ying becau the
fo who have the obligation
and the authority are just too
busy doing hatever it i that
th y do to concern themselves
with the problem of a per n
who IS unfortunate enough to be
poor. But then, DSS is the
corn ionate ency who
igned tho Black women to
the t of cutting road 'de
weeds 1 t summer and Van
Cap . the one who was "re
que ting that those Senior
Citizen of Covert return orne
food this past pring becau
the food was given to them by
Berrien County. So maybe e
shouldn't xpect too much from
either of them. ,
It mus be onderful to be
b e to play God. Esp cially
hen it i not your back that
hurting and its ot you who
re having to use your food
money to buy medicine. Right?
RIGHT? right.
'S REALLY T E for us
to be giving me rio
thought to I th t big decision
that e are going to have to
m e metime before Election
Day in 0 ember. Every
election day e seem to be put
in the position of having to vote
for the Ie or of t 0 evils.
e kI10w that we need to get
. rid of Ronald R gan but
e also kno that we need to
get some re pect from the
Democr t party.
f just ems th t at orne
point we need to collectively
write out our own agenda and
set our own prioritie so that
OUr every action ill be geared
to doin what is best for us
WE see it ..
n we can layout "u
first" program for all the world
to e then our leaders will be
taken out of the awkward
po ition of always having to
poligize to some party or
group or individual becau we
are voting against something
that they don't like.
When everybody understands
that we are going to vote for
our agenda, our program, our
interest first and foremost and
that only those who are pre
pared to upport us in meeting
our needs can expect our sup-
port, while tho who oppo
tho 4 sues and programs that
re beneficial to u can expect
to be treated in kind.
It is basically a matter of
utilitizing tho things that we
po ss. We don't have the
tremendous amounts of money
to give to political campaign
but we do have votes. Vote
that can be u d in a variety
of way - to support, to punish,
to send a me e. They can be
cast in f vor of one party in a
primary but switched to the
other in a general election.
They can u ually make that
crucial difference in a referen
dum, millage proposal or bond
issue. Once we incorporate
the po ibilities into our think
ing and devote a little time to
knowing when to apply then we
might very well be better pr -
pared to deal with a question
like, what do we do in ovem
ber.

IS T IT EIRD how fast

u drop out of ight. Remem
ber inister F arrakhan, you

Remember when the daily
papers and the radio and the
TV needed omething or me
body to u to beat Rev. J ac -
son over the head with? The
Rev .. F arrakhan who has been
around for all the years wa
suddenly snatched from
oblivion and everywhere you
100 there wa his picture
(a per n who didn t know
better would have thought that
it was the cond coming of
christ). There he w on TV.
There he wa being quoted
in Time and ews ee aga
zin as well as the daily paper .
All Black Americans were
being told "If you don't re

going to like you no more"
unfortunately a fe of u
did).
obody ha yet told us of
one thing that he said th t
wa wrong. obody has told
us of on lie that he told. 0-
body h told us of anything
he said that he hadn't been
saying for the p 20 years.
That night after Rev. J ac n
lost hi bid for the Democrat
nomination, Minister Farr
disappeared.
Think about it, and then
think about ich el J ckson
and ho the papers were 0 busy
talking bout him that they
forgot to print the weather re
port. Even forgot to print
the nam of the p per on day.
They were criticizing him for
making too much money and
charging too much for concert
tickets and predicting that
people wouldn't buy them.
They did everything they could
to kill the concert tour but
peopl ept right on buying
tickets and driving hundred
of miles we saw vera} peopl
from thi area at the concert
in Pontiac to him.
The papers got mad with
him and - well, when was the
last time you saw his nam in
the daiily paper? e got lie
at our hou we kept om of
la t month papers, 0 anytirn
e ant to read about "our
folks" we just pull them out.
They should last until the next
crisis.
