OBITUARIES
OF BLESSED MEMORY

M

ichael Kelmenson,
36, of West
Bloomfield, died
Feb. 6, 2024.
Michael was a proud
alumnus of the
University of
Michigan for both
his undergraduate
degree and his
master’s in social
work. He worked
in the Michigan
school systems, coordinated
the youth mentorship program
at Jewish Family Service and
worked as an independent
consultant.
He made friends extremely
easily and formed deep and
lasting relationships with
many. He bonded with people
of all ages. He loved the beauty
of nature and exploring the
outdoors, and even more he
loved sharing and surprising
his friends and family with
many outdoor adventures in
Michigan and across the coun-
try. He hiked, biked, canoed,
kayaked, camped, climbed,
snowboarded and snowshoed.
He was a member of the
society of Les Voyageurs in
Ann Arbor, where he served as
treasurer and board member.
He especially loved his time
visiting Peru, where he trav-
eled and then lived for three
months to become fluent in
Spanish and broaden his career
options.
Michael was wonderful with
children and they responded
in kind. He spent many sum-
mers at Camp Tamarack and
on their trips, first as a camper
and then as a counselor. He
loved music and went to many
concerts, often introducing
friends and family members to

new bands. Michael was a pas-
sionate sports fan, especially
of the University of Michigan
football team. He attended
many games over the years,
both at home and away. The
last game he attended was
in Houston, Texas, on Jan. 8,
2024, where he watched and
celebrated with friends as the
University of Michigan won
the College Football Playoff
National Championship game.
Michael was diagnosed with
sarcoma in 2019. Despite his
diagnosis, he made food deliv-
eries for Meals on Wheels and
Yad Ezra. He continued to plan
and have adventures whenever
possible.
He is survived by his par-
ents, Sara Braverman and
Robin Kelmenson; broth-
er, Daniel (Lindsay); sister,
Rachel; nephews, Noah and
Dylan; many aunts, uncles and
countless cousins.
Funeral services were
held at the Dorfman Chapel
in Farmington Hills. As a
testament to his many deep
and abiding relationships, and
in accordance with his wishes,
the eulogies were given by his
close friends and his sister
Rachel. A video of the service
can be viewed on the Dorfman
Chapel website. Interment
took place at Beth El Memorial
Park in Livonia. Contributions
may be made to Braverman-
Kelmenson Liposarcoma
Research Fund at the Dana-
Farber Cancer Institute,
Division of Philanthropy,
Attn: Elizabeth Patterson, 10
Brookline Place West, Sixth
Floor Brookline, MA 02445.
They can also be made online
through a link on the Dorfman
Chapel website.
