CARL M. RISEMAN, 81, former
Detroiter of Walnut Creek, Calif., died
Nov. 19, 2018.
He was born in Detroit the day the
Golden Gate Bridge opened (May 27,
1937). He grew up on a farm in Dryden,
Mich., where his parents ran a summer
camp.
Carl graduated from the University
of Michigan and its law school. He was
associate sports editor of the Michigan
Daily.
Mr. Riseman practiced law for close
to 50 years, most of it as partner in a
Lapeer, Mich., firm. He loved the law
and was a “lawyer’s lawyer.”
He met Beth (Weingarden) at a polit-
ical event in Detroit, and they married
in 1965. They loved to travel, socialize
and volunteer in their various southeast-
ern Michigan communities. Carl also
enjoyed playing tennis regularly with
friends for many years.
He was president and new-building
chair of Temple Beth El in Flint and
served on many boards. Most of all,
Carl enjoyed family activities. In 2014,
Carl and Beth moved to California
(“Rossmoor” in Walnut Creek) to be
near most of their children and grand-
children.
Mr. Riseman is survived by his wife,
Beth; daughter, Rebecca (Nick Schoen);
sons, James (Kate) and Daniel (Judy
Bernstein); grandchildren, Max, Josh,
Elliot, Zach, Aya, Zoe, Alexa and Olivia.
He was predeceased by his parents,
Harry and Meta Riseman; and sister,
Joanne Mandel.
Contributions may be made to the
Alzheimer’s Association, the Sierra
Club or the Anti-Defamation League.

nephews, other family members and
friends.
Mrs. Weinberger was the loving
grandmother of the late Nolan and
the late Kala; sister-in-law of the late
Hyman Deal.
Interment was held at Machpelah
Cemetery in Ferndale. Contributions
may be made to the Crohn’s and
Colitis Foundation or to Hospice of
Michigan. Arrangements by Dorfman
Chapel.
