in loving memory of her maternal
great-grandmother Sylvia Seidman,

Debra Kayes Halpern
and Miles Halpern of
Batavia, Ill., are very
happy to announce the
birth of their beautiful
daughter, Edith “Edie”
Louise Kayes Halpern. Joyfully
welcoming Edie are her grandpar-
ents Linda and Dennis Kayes of
Huntington Woods, and Leslie and
Barton Halpern of Lititz, Pa. Edie is
fortunate to have a great-grandpa,
Arnold Halpern. Edie is named in
loving memory of Miles’ maternal
grandmother Edith Lichstein, who
was adored by her family.

tion in prayer as he
celebrates his bar
mitzvah on Friday,
Oct. 5, 2018, at Temple Israel in
West Bloomfield. He will be joined
in celebration by his proud sister
Sabrina, and grandparents Sheila
and Miles Hurwitz, and Maxine and
Robert Carson.
He is a student at Detroit Country
Day School in Beverly Hills. Among
his many mitzvah projects, Anthony
gave his time to fight hunger in
our community by volunteering at
the Temple Israel Free Fresh Food
Pantry.
Ari Zev Giske will be
called to the Torah for
his bar mitzvah on
Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018,
at Congregation Beth
Ahm in West
Bloomfield. He is the
son of Staci (Bloch) and Fabio
Giske and big brother to Eitan and
Talya. Proud grandparents are
Eliane and Salmen Giske of Recife,
Brazil. Late grandparents Janet and
Harold Bloch will be remembered.
Ari is a middle school student at
New Morning School in Plymouth.
For his mitzvah project, he will
work with animals in need.

becomes a bar mitzvah
at Temple Israel in
West Bloomfield on Saturday, Oct.
6, 2018. He is the loving grandson
of Marilyn and Harvey Hortick, and
the late Diane and Irving Chasnick.

Township. He chose to help combat
hunger in our community by vol-
unteering at the Temple Israel Free
Fresh Food Pantry and found this to
be the most meaningful of his many
mitzvah experiences.
Lilyana Hope Hyman
will be called to the
Torah as a bat mitz-
vah on Friday, Oct. 5,
2018, at Temple Israel
in West Bloomfield.
She will be joined in
celebration by her proud parents,
Stephen Hyman, and Rebecca and
Mark DeRaud, and siblings
Zachary, Sara and Colette. She is
the loving grandchild of Doris and
Harvey Olson, the late Hal
Margolis, Allen and the late Lillian
Hyman, and the late Tom and Rita
DeRaud.
Lilyana is a student at Clifford H.
Smart Middle School in Commerce
Township. As part of her mitzvah
experience, she volunteered for the
organization PB and J, where she
distributed food during the winter
to homeless people. She found this
project to be the most meaningful
as she felt people were twice as
grateful in the winter, which made
her realize how lucky she is to have
a safe and loving home.
Evan Riley Lovy, of
West Bloomfield, will
be called to the Torah
as a bar mitzvah on
Saturday, Oct. 6, 2018,
at Adat Shalom
Synagogue in
Farmington Hills. Joining Evan in
celebrating this joyous occasion
will be his parents, Jennifer and
Jonathan Lovy; siblings, Noah and
Jessica; and grandparents, Dorene
and Alan Finer, and Andrew Lovy.
He is also the grandson of the late
Madeline Lovy.
Evan is a student at Orchard Lake
Middle School in West Bloomfield.
For his mitzvah project, he raised
money for West Bloomfield-based
Friendship Circle, an organization
he’s benefited from for nearly 10
years.

was most rewarding. For Ian, an
animal lover, it was volunteering at
New Beginnings Animal Rescue;
for Ryan, it was helping with tea
times and games at Jewish Senior
Life’s Fleischman Residence in West
Bloomfield.
Cameron Rose
Spagna will lead the
congregation in
prayer as she becomes
a bat mitzvah on
Saturday, Oct. 6 ,
2018, at Temple Israel
in West Bloomfield. She will be
joined in celebration by her proud
parents, Dr. Renee Applebaum-
Spagna and Randy Spagna, and
her sisters Logan, Samantha and
Paige. Cameron is the loving
grandchild of Lorraine and Howard
Applebaum, and Marion and the
late Nick Spagna.
She is a student at West Hills
Middle School in Bloomfield Hills.
For her mitzvah project, Cameron
volunteered with the Michigan
Parkinson’s Foundation to prepare
for its yearly fundraiser. She also
formed a team that participated
in the event and raised more than
$4,000 to help enhance the quality
of life for people with Parkinson’s
disease and their families.

project, she donated men’s cloth-
ing to various area shelters to help
prepare those in need for job inter-
