Common Ground’s Birmingham
Street Art Fair returns to Downtown
Birmingham but moves from Old
Woodward to Shain Park. Approximately
150 juried artists will be featured, repre-
senting a diverse array of art mediums,
including ceramics, painting, photogra-
phy, glass, jewelry, sculpture, drawing,
printmaking and more. Featured will
be Judaic artist Orna Amrani, who has
gained recognition for her innovative,
three-dimensional creations that contain
Jewish motifs (such as the one pictured
here). There will be free, hands-on chil-
dren’s art activities and a silent auction
tent filled with beautiful artwork, which
will directly benefit Common Ground,
a nonprofit organization dedicated to
helping teens, young adults and families
move from crisis to hope. 10 a.m.-6 p.m.
Saturday and 10-5 Sunday. Admission is
free.

Paula Eiselt’s debut feature documentary, 93Queen,
premiers on the PBS documentary series POV on Monday,
Sept. 17, at 10 p.m. on WTVS Channel 56. Set in the
Hasidic enclave of Borough Park, Brooklyn, 93Queen
follows a group of tenacious Chasidic women who are
smashing the patriarchy in their community by creating
the first all-female volunteer ambulance corps in New
York City. A series of vignettes shows the women training,
obtaining the necessary medical supplies and setting
up their emergency dispatch system. The documentary
offers a unique portrayal of a group of religious women
who are taking matters into their own hands to change
their own community from within.
