Laughter, hugs and endless smiles filled Emagine Royal Oak on May
10 as JARC celebrated its 20th annual SpringElation celebration —
JARCapalooza!
Festivities included dinner catered by Quality Kosher Catering, movies,
bowling, face painting, balloon sculptures and special appearances by
Marvel’s Captain America and Disney’s Ariel. The theaters offered movie
and entertainment options, including magician Ming the Magnificent! and
interactive musical performances by the Swingset Mamas.
By the end of the evening, more than 1,100 guests had joined in on the
fun. Proceeds from SpringElation support JARC’s range of services for
men, women and children with disabilities, including autism and develop-
mental delays. •

More than 300 women gathered May 10 for the Friends of the Israel Defense
Forces (FIDF) Michigan Women of Valor Luncheon at Knollwood Country Club in
West Bloomfield, which raised nearly $100,000 to support educational programs
for Israel Defense Forces (IDF) combat veterans.
Keynote speaker was former Miss Israel Yityish “Titi” Aynaw, who immigrated to
Israel from Ethiopia and led 300 soldiers as a lieutenant in the IDF.
An emotional highlight came when IDF Staff Sgt. (Res.) David Levy surprised
Woman of Valor honoree Eunice Ring, who sponsored his college education
through the FIDF IMPACT! Scholarship Program. FIDF had flown Levy, a French
immigrant to Israel who served as a combat drill sergeant, to Michigan to help
honor Ring for her dedication to Israel’s troops.
At the event, FIDF also honored FIDF Michigan Executive Board Member
Brenda Wayne with the Woman of Achievement Award for her tireless commit-
ment to FIDF and for sponsoring FIDF IMPACT! scholarships since 2006.•
