More than 300 women gathered May 10 for the Friends of the Israel Defense Forces (FIDF) Michigan Women of Valor Luncheon at Knollwood Country Club in West Bloomfield, which raised nearly $100,000 to support educational programs for Israel Defense Forces (IDF) combat veterans. Keynote speaker was former Miss Israel Yityish “Titi” Aynaw, who immigrated to Israel from Ethiopia and led 300 soldiers as a lieutenant in the IDF. An emotional highlight came when IDF Staff Sgt. (Res.) David Levy surprised Woman of Valor honoree Eunice Ring, who sponsored his college education through the FIDF IMPACT! Scholarship Program. FIDF had flown Levy, a French immigrant to Israel who served as a combat drill sergeant, to Michigan to help honor Ring for her dedication to Israel’s troops. At the event, FIDF also honored FIDF Michigan Executive Board Member Brenda Wayne with the Woman of Achievement Award for her tireless commit- ment to FIDF and for sponsoring FIDF IMPACT! scholarships since 2006.• places Siblings and JARC volunteers Ryck, Ronald and Reagann Hall of Southfield with Ariel FIDF Midwest Executive Director Tamir Oppenheim; Brenda Wayne; luncheon co-chair Joan Chernoff Epstein; former Miss Israel Yityish “Titi” Aynaw; luncheon co-chair Susie Pappas; and FIDF Michigan Director Paula Lebowitz JARC staff Michaela Moss, center, with nieces Regi’Auna and Reginae’, all of Detroit Honoree Eunice Ring and FIDF Michigan Executive Board Member Brenda Wayne, FIDF’s Woman of Achievement honoree FIDF supporters Judy and Gabriella Karp Lyndon and Oliver Garrett of Redford with Captain America JARC volunteers Talia Dolgin of Huntington Woods, Richard Gilmore of West Bloomfield and Carol Kaczander of Oak Park FIDF Michigan Vice President Shari Kaufman and luncheon co-chair Joan Chernoff Epstein 34 June 14 • 2018 jn Guest speaker: former Miss Israel Yityish “Titi” Aynaw, who immigrated to Israel from Ethiopia and led 300 soldiers as a lieutenant in the IDF.
