Farm System; they tendered an offer
to move him up in the organization to
the big leagues but, instead of pursu-
ing a career centered around sport
and travel, he decided to dedicate his
life to his family.
Max began a career with Howard
and Ripley Clothes, a national men’s
clothing chain, He became a vice
president and after early retirement
started a new career with Olsten and
Company.
He will be greatly missed by his
beloved family: daughter and son-in-
law, Caren and Dr. Stuart Bass; son
and daughter-in-law, Steve and Deidre
Putterman; grandchildren, Julie and
David Sidder, Robyn and Travis Hunt,
the late Rachel Putterman, Kathleen
and Neal Hance, Nicole and Dan
IaQuinta, and Justin and Natasha
Cohen; great-grandchildren, Ella and
Ava Sidder, Braden and Gavin Hunt,
Billy and Holly Hance, Neal and Naomi
Hance, and Stephanie Hance; great-
great-grandchildren, Madelyn Hance,
Neal Hance III, Savannah Hance and

Mikey Abramsky.
Mr. Putterman was preceded in
death by his beloved wife, Ella, who
passed away in 1996.
A memorial fund has been estab-
lished in Max’s honor at the Baseball
Hall of Fame at Cooperstown for those
wishing to further honor his memory.

LILA REDER, 86, of
Oak Park, passed away
peacefully on Feb. 27,
2018.
Lila was the
beloved wife of the
late Samuel Reder;
and mother of Mark,
Reder
Steven (Patricia) and
Michael Reder; grand-
mother of Stefani
Reder, Sarah Roberts (Ryan) and Brian
Reder, Brandon, Emily, and Seth Reder
(Deborah); and great-grandmother of
Randy, Samuel and Hannah Reder. Lila
was also survived by her sister-in-law,
Shirley Cohen (Lawrence) and many
other family members and friends.
Lila enjoyed many accomplish-
ments in her lifetime. She graduated

from OCC but was most proud of her
puppeteering. She joined the Detroit
Puppeteers Guild in 1959 and per-
formed for sick children, holidays and
events for many years.
Lila volunteered at Providence
Hospital Southfield for more than 20
years and was a charter member of
Temple Emanuel for more than 45
years. Lila was recently honored by
the Sloan Kettering Cancer Center.
Donations can be made in her
memory to Memorial Sloan Kettering
Cancer Center at giving.mskcc.org. A
gathering of family and close friends
was held at her home to celebrate her
life on March 1, 2018.

ELLIOTT SAMSON,
72, of Phoenix, Ariz.,
formerly of
Farmington Hills, died
Feb. 28, 2018.
He is survived by his
wife of 48 years, Marge
Samson; daughters,
Samson
Stefanie Samson Zaks
and Heather Samson;
granddaughter, Hannah Zaks; broth-

ers and sisters-in-law, Norm and
Barb Samson, and Frank and Michele
Samson; sisters-in-law, Sandra
Samson and Lynn Cohn; many loving
nieces, nephews, cousins and a world
of friends.
Mr. Samson was the loving brother
of the late Fred Samson; the dear
brother-in-law of the late Marc Cohn;
the devoted son of the late Pauline
and the late Ruby Samson.
