A

fter building a wholesale
granite and tile business in
cities across Florida, Ohio,
Tennessee, Louisiana and
Alabama, Fred Cohen recently brought
Omicron Granite and Tile to Metro
Detroit, opening a showroom and ware-
house in Novi to provide the best prod-
ucts to our burgeoning homebuilding
and remodeling market.
“The renaissance of Detroit has
brought us back after a 14-year hiatus,”
says Cohen, a former Detroiter who
now resides in South Florida. He and
Michigan-based partner Paul Zlotoff
own 18 warehouse and showrooms with
quality materials at competitive prices.

QUALITY PRODUCTS
At Omicron, homeowners, contractors
and interior designers can select from
Caesarstone quartz surfaces; slabs of
premium granite and quartzite; and
sheets of its latest porcelain product,
Laminam — porcelain panels that look
like marble, but don’t etch or discolor.
The partners gained the exclusive
contract in Michigan to sell Caesarstone,
engineered quartz from an Israeli com-
pany, that is as durable as it is stunning,
and available in nearly 100 colors.
Despite the popularity of these inno-
vative new products, granite and quartz-
ite remain Omicron’s biggest sellers,
according to Cohen, with more than one
million slabs sold since the company
opened its doors in 2004. “We offer slabs
with subtle to bold designs in neutral to
daring colors. These natural stone sur-
faces are easy to clean, withstand heat
and require minimal maintenance, so
they last for many years and truly add
value to any home,” Cohen says.

BACK HOME AGAIN
Cohen spent many years in Michigan as
an entrepreneur, sending his children
to Andover High School in Bloomfield
Township and the University of
Michigan. Florida’s growing real estate
market prompted him to invest in
Omicron, taking it from two to 11 loca-
tions across Florida. Demand kept grow-
ing and he and Zlotoff began opening
showroom warehouses in the South and
Midwest — and he’s excited to return to
his former home.
“Something exciting is happening in
Michigan and we want to be a part of the
momentum,” Cohen says.
With an exclusive line of products, a
beautiful showroom and warehouse, and
top-notch service, Omicron is excited
to contribute to the rebuilding of Metro
Detroit. Y
