Securing Our Future

Through the Centennial Fund, Doreen Hermelin and Her Family
Help Create Lasting Jewish Experiences at Tamarack Camps

I

n 1997, on the occasion of David Hermelin’s (z”l) 60th

milestone to the extraordinary legacy she shares with her

birthday, Lila and Gil (z”l) Silverman made a gift to Tamarack

late husband and family.

Camps in his honor, officially establishing Hermelin Village.

The gesture could not have been more fitting, as Doreen

and David first met at summer camp. The Hermelins have a

place among the most generous and committed leaders in

the history of our community and their passionate support

has touched the lives of countless Jewish individuals here

in Detroit, as well as in Israel and throughout the world.

Today, Doreen continues to maintain a deep connection to

Jewish Detroit, and—together with her children and their

families—remains a dynamic champion for the community.

In addition to the Jewish Federation, Doreen supports a

variety of organizations and causes including Jewish

education and social services, medical research, the arts

and many others. Now, with her commitment to the

Centennial Fund, Doreen will add another important

and Identity-Building. Twenty years after its establishment,

Doreen has created a Centennial Fund to renovate and

maintain Hermelin Village, ensuring that future generations

of children continue to have magical and life-changing

Jewish experiences at Tamarack Camps. “Spending the

summer at a Jewish camp creates a foundation of values

and traditions that support an individual’s entire life,” she

says. “Tamarack Camps is truly one of the gems of our

community and we are so honored to be a part of it. Not

only is it important to me and my children, I know this is

something David would want to do.”
