Women’s Convention
‘Life-Changing’
Friends Of Israel
In the Nov. 2 paper, an article stated the
Women’s Convention was not impact-
ful and some women did not attend
because one of the leaders was anti-
Israel.
I attended the Women’s Convention,
and it was a positive, life-changing
weekend for me. One important dis-
cussion that took place was at a panel
“Confronting Anti-Semitism and White
Supremacy.” During this panel, we
were able to create discussions about
breaking the silence surrounding anti-
Semitism.
I will take my newly learned knowl-
edge back to my many communities
that I am a part of and educate them.
The convention was also extremely
impactful because through young adult
programming, I connected with other
women who I can use as a support sys-
tem now.
The convention may have been
expensive, but I attended on a full schol-
arship from the Arcus Social Justice
Leadership Fund, a Kalamazoo College
fund that supports social justice leader-
ship projects.
The Women’s Convention was one
of the best weekends of my life. I am so
thankful for the scholarship I received,
which enabled me to attend. One of
every three participants was awarded
a scholarship from the Women’s March
fund or other sources.
I hope this will encourage other
young women to attend events like
these, with the support of Federation’s
Women’s Foundation.

On Sunday, Nov. 5, we had the privilege
of attending the “Thank God For Israel
Day” at the Sheraton Hotel in Novi.
This annual event, the 13th spon-
sored by the Friends of Israel Gospel
Ministry, is held to educate and bring
the Christian and Jewish communities
together in steadfast support for the
State of Israel.
There were 100 enthusiastic pro-
Israel supporters who attended the
luncheon.
We listened with great interest to our
speakers, Eli Burman,
a passionate activist
for the communities
of Judea and Samaria
and a volunteer sup-
porter of One Israel
Fund from Baltimore,
Md., along with Rabbi
David Marcus, Israel
Eli Burman
director for One Israel
Fund.
Rabbi Marcus high-
lighted the great need in this area
for medical care and the vision of
Binyamin Medical Center to help meet
the needs of the current and future
residents in Judea and Samaria.
The medical facility is being located
to serve both the Jewish and Arab com-
munities of Judea and Samaria. Also,
the goal of the One Israel Fund is to
provide economic opportunity for all.
Currently, residents must travel to
Jerusalem on a highly congested road,
and often the trip can last from 30 to
over 80 minutes.
Burman’s and Marcus’ enthusiasm
and knowledge of Israel and particu-
larly Israel’s Judea and Samaria regions
gave us a desire to learn and do more
for the residents there.
We came away from this experience

encouraged by our Christian friends,
who expressed their wholehearted
commitment to the survival of the
State of Israel and its people.
As Psalm 133:1 states: “Behold, how
good and how pleasant it is for breth-
ren to dwell together in unity.”
Our congratulations and thank you
to Rev. Tim Munger, the Friends of

for his tireless efforts with this yearly
program and his organization’s dedica-

No Man’s Land
On The Internet
I don’t believe you have to run away or
fight on the Internet (“Fight or Flight?”
Nov. 16) but it is a no-man’s land for
an independent moderate, someone
both anti-Trump and pro-Israel. I find
myself agreeing with many of my liber-
al friends regarding our current presi-
dent and yet often agree with my most
conservative friends who stand with
Israel against its strong detractors.
It is a lot easier posting pictures
of family and cool photos and get-
ting likes instead of angry comments
stirred by political opinions. Yet, I don’t
think there’s anything wrong with
sharing strong opinions, as long as we
are respectful and listen to both sides.
Unfortunately, it seems so many people
have locked themselves into their own
polarized corners and only hear what
they want to hear.
I have only unfriended one Facebook
friend because of her constant criti-

cism of Israel and its “apartheid poli-
cies.” And, sadly, I have witnessed
Facebook friends of mine in heated
confrontational arguments with each
other following an article I posted. And
then, all I can whisper to myself is “oy
vey, what have I started?” and hear in
my head Rodney King’s “Can’t we all
just get along?”
Sadly, this country is even more
divided than it was in 1991, 26 years
ago, and so are Jews. In my prayers, I
can envision more Jews questio ning
both hard-liners who hate criticism of
Trump as well as liberals who stand
with extremists condemning Israel.
As a Jew, I completely like and stand
with Harry Onickel (“Don’t Place
Politics Ahead of Judaism,” Nov. 16,
page 5) when he writes, “The more BDS
and anti-Semitism we are foolishly will-
ing to overlook, the more we will get,
especially when we allow ourselves to
be so easily manipulated.”
I hope Jews on each side of the politi-
cal fence can agree with Harry and will
take a stand against Jew-hatred, wher-
ever it comes from.
