The Well, along with other host
organizations, will hold its third
“biggest tashlich service in
Michigan” from 2-5 p.m. Sunday,
Sept. 24, at the Belle Isle Boat House
on Belle Isle. The tachlich ritual
itself will be from 3:30-4 p.m.
There will be food trucks, live
music, family activities and more.
There is no cost to park at the
site with a Michigan State Parks
Recreation Passport ($11 without
the passport).

Puerto Rico And Irma

FALL PERIMETER INSECT CONTROL

Detroiters Lynn and Ari Kresch,
along with their teenage daughter
Tessa, moved from Farmington
Hills to San Juan, Puerto Rico, a
few months ago. Last Thursday
they moved to an apartment in the
Condado area right on the beach,
just as predictions of powerful
Hurricane Irma became very real. As
the storm hit, they watched both a
traffic light and tree fall, and a trans-
former blow up. The waves were as
much as 25 feet high and reached
all the way up to their building, later
receding, leaving a smooth, clean
beach.
“Our apartment is in a sturdy,
reinforced concrete building and
our apartment is on the fourth floor.
We’re very lucky compared to a lot of
people,” Lynn says.
Their power had gone out, but
because the power grid in Purerto
Rico is fragile even in good weather,
their building has a generator that is
providing them with limited power
through a single electrical outlet.

nearby school is still closed due to
lack of power. While Puerto Rico
missed the worst of the storm and
its port and airport are operating,
Hurricane Jose is in the wings. •
