he Inter-Congregational Men’s
Club Summer Softball League
season is heading into the
home stretch.
The 18-game regular season is
wrapping up with playoffs taking
place in August.
A league record 18 teams — one
more than last year’s previous record
of 17 teams — are competing this
season, mostly at Drake Sports Park in
West Bloomfield, and in divisions for
the first time.
The divisions are based on last
year’s records with the goal of provid-
ing more competitive games.
The new combined Kol Ami-B’nai
Israel team — B’nai Israel rents space
at Kol Ami — isn’t having a great sea-
son in the standings, but camaraderie
is just as important as competition in
the league.
“We continue to dominate … last
place,” said Chuck Freedman from Kol
Ami. “But we’re having a good time.”
Steve Achtman and Michael
Betman are running the league,
as they’ve done for several years.
Freedman has stepped down from the
role, but is continuing to take photos
for the league’s website (mensclub-
softball.org) and for publication.
Temple Israel No. 2 is the defending
league champion. It defeated B’nai
Moshe in last year’s playoff title game.
Shir Shalom No. 1 finished in third
place last year, defeating Temple Israel
No. 1 in the playoff consolation game.

IT’S AN ACE
Shooting your first hole-in-one is
always exciting and it certainly
was for Birmingham resident Pam
Dangovian.
Her ace came July 26 on the par-3
sixth hole at Springdale Golf Course in
Birmingham.
Teeing off from the women’s tee 87
yards away from the hole, she lofted
a 7-wood that landed slightly behind
the green on a hill. The ball took two
bounces onto the green and rolled

VINSKY IS THE FIRST
Northwood University freshman right-
fielder David Vinsky made history last
month when he was named to the
Jewish Sports Review College Baseball
All-America team.
Vinsky is the first player in
Northwood baseball history to earn
that honor from Jewish Sports Review,
a bi-monthly magazine that covers
Jewish athletes in high school, college,
professional and international sports.
A 6-foot, 200-pound Farmington
Hills Harrison High School graduate,
Vinsky set Northwood single-season
records for hits (109), extra-base hits
(35), doubles (27), total bases (156)
and runs scored (62) during the
2017 season.
He led NCAA Division II in hits
and doubles, batted .449, and was
a finalist for the Tino Martinez
Division II Player of the Year award.
He was named the Great Lakes
Intercollegiate Athletic Conference
Freshman of the Year. •
