EMANUEL “MANNY”
LITVIN, 94, of
Rochester, died June 19,
2017.
He was born in
Detroit and moved to a
farm in November 1929,
when the stock market
Litvin
crash caused his dad’s
plant to close.
Mr. Litvin attended a
two-room country school in Davis, Mich.
When he was attending Mount Clemens
High School, his parents purchased a 1927
Model T Ford for $20 so he could drive to
school the next four years.
After graduation in the spring of 1942,
Manny attended school for aviation
mechanics in Chicago. It was while he
was riding an 8:07 “L”, he met Bernice
Walker. In December, he enlisted in the
U.S. Air Force and married Bernice in
September of 1943.
He was discharged in December 1945,
having received the following deco-
rations and citations: the American
Theater Medal, European, African,
Middle East, Asiatic Pacific theaters

medals, Good Conduct Medal, Victory
Medal, World War II ribbons.
He joined the family lumber com-
pany in Mount Clemens. After serving
his internship, his brothers asked him
to take the CEO spot in July 1952. The
market collapsed during 1973-74 and
destroyed the family business for the
second time. He did what his father did,
paid off all creditors.
He was unable to find work in the
lumber industry. Since he was a lay
leader for Israel Bonds, luck was with
him as the area manager retired and
Manny spoke to President Michael
Arnon about taking the place of the one
who just retired. He joined the State of
Israel Bonds on July 1, 1975; and for the
next 15 years, he helped build a nation
for the Jewish people through the sale

of Israel Bonds. In 1990, he retired and
spent the rest of his days enjoying the
fruits of his life experience having vis-
ited Israel six times. As Snark of the
Universe 93/94 (Hoo Hoo International),
he visited 54 clubs in the U.S.A. &
Canada, New Zealand, Australia and
Tasmania.
Mr. Litvin is survived by his sons and
daughter-in-law, M. Bradford Randolph,
Brad and Hillary Randolph, Bruce
Litvin; daughter and son-in-law, Jeanne
Litvin and Mel Teitelbaum; many grand-
children and great-grandchildren.
Interment took place at Beth
Tephilath Moses Cemetery in Mount
Clemens. Contributions may be made
to the Beth Tephilath Moses Synagogue.
Arrangements by Dorfman Chapel.
