About
Coff ee

Anthology Coff ee
1401 Vermont St., Detroit
Hours: Monday, Tuesday, Friday
9 a.m.-6 p.m.
Wednesday & Thursday- closed
Saturday & Sunday 9 a.m.-4 p.m.
(313) 355-4040

Tucked inside the Ponyride
building on Vermont Street sits
Anthology Coffee, where you can
expect far more than your aver-
age cup of joe.
Husband-and-wife team Josh
and Anne Longsdorf started
Anthology four years ago. They
describe Anthology as a tast-
ing room — a welcoming space
where customers are encouraged
to interact and ask questions

about coffee.
Guests can also expect a
service-oriented experience. Your
coffee is served directly at your
table, along with the option of
cream and sugar.
At Anthology, customers can
sample single origin beans from
around the globe, which are
roasted and brewed as either
a pour-over or espresso drink.
You won’t find a standard menu,
allowing for an open-ended
ordering experience.
While you won’t find “venti”
sizes at Anthology, the coffee
delivers just the right amount of
caffeine. Their latte, in particular,
is simply perfect.
The next time you find your-
self in Detroit, stop in Anthology
for a hot beverage with an
optional side of coffee talk.

Astro Coff ee —
Detroit

Allison Jacobs | Contributing Writer

I

s the cold weather already getting you down? Ducking
into a cozy coffee shop in subzero temps might be one of
the best remedies for the wintertime blues.
While we all have our favorite chain coffee spots, con-
sider stopping at one of these independent shops on a bitter
cold day.

*

A true favorite in Corktown, this
bustling shop attracts customers
by the droves eager to sample
some of the finest coffee and
espresso beverages in the city.
Not only is the atmosphere
cozy, but the drinks will warm
you right up. One of its most
popular offerings is the flat
white. While you may have tried
it at Starbucks, trust that Astro’s
version is the real deal.
In the mood for just straight-
up coffee? The baristas at Astro
serve fresh pour-overs with
beans from some of the fin-
est roasters in the business,
including Detroit’s very own
Anthology Coffee, Sightglass
Coffee Roasters in San Francisco
and Heart Roasters in Portland.
