to share a themed potluck meal, learn
about a Third World country and make
a small donation to a non-government
organization (NGO) that helps girls and
women in that country.
The local funds are pooled with funds
raised at similar gatherings all over the
country, resulting in a significant con-
tribution to the target program.
The West Bloomfield chapter, which
includes women from other parts of
Metro Detroit as well, was started in
2013 by Sharona Shapiro and Lea Luger,
both of West Bloomfield.
In late October, the chapter held its
bimonthly dinner at the Northwest
Detroit home of Sabrina Black, a coun-
selor, coach and consultant.
The month's target NGO works in
Mali. Participants introduced them-
selves then shared a Mali-themed veg-
etarian potluck meal that included tofu
in Mali sauce, several vegetable stews,
