Merson

STANLEY EARL
MERSON, 79, of Boca
Raton, Fla., formerly of
West Bloomfield, passed
away on Oct. 8, 2016.
He was the cherished
father of Dr. Marcie
Merson-Gaskill (Bart)
and Lisa Merson-Moses
(Glenn); grandfather
of Bradley and Nathan

Gaskill.
Stanley was the devoted husband for 48
years of the late Phyllis Margolis Merson;
son of the late Harriet (Simons) Merson
and the late Michael Merson.
Interment was at Star of David
Cemetery, North Lauderdale, Fla. The
family received visitors at the home of Dr.
Marcie Merson and Barton Gaskill, 2299
NW 30th Road, Boca Raton, (561) 499-
7020. It is suggested that those who wish
to further honor the memory of Stanley
Merson may do so by making contribu-
tions to a charity of one’s choice; to The
Shul at Bal Harbor, Education Fund; or to
the Justin Bartlett Animal Rescue.

EVELYN ROSEN, 91,
passed away Oct. 12,
2016.
Evelyn taught physical
education in Detroit and
later became the head
librarian at Oak Park
High School, where she
worked for more than 20
Rosen
years.
For more than 70
years, she was the loving wife of Fred
Rosen. Evelyn was the mother of Sue
Anne Rosen (Steven) Schafer and Dr. Roy
Merrill (Robin) Rosen; grandmother of
Rachel Miriam (Brendan) Hill, Abigail
Leigh (Brandon) Galeas, Dr. Katie
Marie Rosen, Dr. Karen Rosen (Evan)
Wasserman, Dr. Kelli Anne Rosen and
Corey Samuels Rosen; great-grandmother
of Asher Thurston Hill.
Interment was held at Clover Hill Park
Cemetery. A contribution in Evelyn’s
memory may be made to a charity of one’s
choice. Arrangements by Dorfman Chapel.

SHIRLEY ROY, 85, of Columbus, died
Oct. 16, 2016.
She was a devoted lover of the arts, with
expertise in Japanese art and an especial
fondness for theater and jazz.
Mrs. Roy is survived by her son and
daughter-in-law, Eric and Carol Roy;
grandchildren, Michelle and Alyssa; many
other loving family members and friends.
She was the beloved wife and soulmate
of the late Robert W. Roy.
Contributions may be made to a char-
ity of one’s choice. Interment took place
at Hebrew Memorial Park Cemetery in
Clinton Township. Arrangements by
Dorfman Chapel.

LESLIE H. SHER,
D.D.S., 87, of Delray
Beach, Fla., passed away
Sept. 28, 2016.
“Doc” was born in
Detroit, graduated from
Central High School,
Wayne State University
Sher
and University of
Michigan Dental School
(1953). He married his
sweetheart, Sydelle (Schwartz), in 1953.

After serving in the Army at Ft. Hood,
he established his dental practice in Flint,
where he worked for 35 years. Doc helped
rebuild the Historic Holly Hotel in 1978;
and, with his wife, Sydelle, was instrumen-
tal in the rejuvenation of Battle Alley in
Holly.
Among other things, he was a Mason,
a dedicated member of Company A in
Boca Raton, an avid collector, a gentleman
farmer, a fisherman, a woodworker, web
master, storyteller, writer and an artist
known as “Sir stamps-a-lot”. He was a ded-
icated husband, father and a good friend.
Dr. Sher is survived by his daugh-
ters, Cara Zimmerman (Ken) of Boca
Raton and Susan Baker, D.V.M., (Ken) of
Scottsdale, Ariz.; grandchildren Robert
Sandman, Ari Zimmerman and Rachel
Borenstein, stepgrandchildren and great-
grandchildren, Kim, Jeff, Jesseca, Bella and
Kendall Baker; sister, Sandra Tuttleman.
He was the husband of the late Sydelle
Sher; brother of the late Sylvia Kraft.
Contributions may be made to the
American Technion Society or Vitas
Healthcare.
